Meet the Coach

2009's Seahawks Elite Head Coach - Tom Poti

Coach Poti played varsity high school hockey at the age of 13 at Saint Peter Marion for 3 years before being recruited by Cushing Academy, a private Prep School. During his 3 year tenure with Cushing, the team tallied 112 wins, 8 losses, and 5 ties. During his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years he was chosen for hockey night in Boston. Perhaps his biggest High School Hockey accomplishment came his senior year when he was chosen to represent Team USA at the World Junior Championships in Boston.

During Poti's Junior year he was also recruited by numerous Division I schools and drafted by the OHL (Ontario Hockey League). Tom chose to commit to BU (Boston University) and legendary coach, Jack Parker.

Prior to his freshman year at BU, Poti was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1996 NHL entry draft, 59th overall. He went on to play for BU for the following two years in which they won 2 Beanpots, 2 Hockey East regular-season championships, and 1 playoff championship. Poti was also the first defenseman in 19 years to win the MVP of the Beanpot Tournament.

Tom was selected, again, to represent Team USA for the World Junior Championship in Switzerland his freshman year where they would take Silver.

Throughout his College career, Poti would receive many awards including being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and the NCAA All-Tournament team his freshman year. In his Sophomore year, he would be named first-team All American and voted the best defenseman in Hockey East.

Following his Sophomore year with BU, Poti decided to pursue his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers. Poti went on to play 14 more seasons in the NHL with teams such as the Rangers, Islanders, and the Washington Capitals. He was selected to play in the NHL All-Star game in 2002 and played for Team USA in the 2002 Olympic games, where they would take silver under Coach Herb Brooks.

Aside from Tom's 14 Year NHL Career, he also boasts an impressive resume in coaching youth hockey players. From the Seahawks Youth Hockey Club, The Boston Bandits, to his very own TP3 Hockey program.
